Yancoal Canada Resources Company Limited (Yancoal) held two rounds of community information sessions to provide information about our Southey Potash Project in March and July of 2015. A total of 242 people attended the community information sessions in March and 364 people attended the community information sessions in July.
In March, community information sessions were held in Southey and Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. Yancoal representatives were present to answer questions about the company, and the Project. Representatives from Golder Associates Ltd. (Golder), the consultant working on the environmental assessment were present to provide support to Yancoal and to answer questions about the environmental assessment. Posters providing information about the Project and the environmental assessment process were displayed around the room and attendees were encouraged to review the posters and ask questions of the Yancoal and Golder representatives.
During the most recent sessions in July, community information sessions were held in Earl Grey, Southey and Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. Representatives from the Ministry of Environment (MOE), the Ministry of Economy (MECON), SaskWater (Early Grey only), RM of Longlaketon, Water Security Agency (Southey and Strasbourg only), Golder, and Amec Foster Wheeler( i.e. engineering design consultant), and Yancoal were present to answer questions and listen to concerns from attendees. Poster panels were displayed around room and the Lead for Project Coordination Department Mr. Asad Naqvi gave an introductory presentation about Yancoal and the Southey Potash Project.
Yancoal proposes to build a solution potash mine to be operational in 2020. Currently, Yancoal is conducting the Feasibility Study (FS) of the project which is expected to be completed in early 2016. The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was submitted to the MOE for review on July 13, 2015. Following a technical and a public review period, MOE will make a decision on EIS approval. Yancoal is a public listed company, and as such requires approval to proceed with construction from the Board of Directors upon FS completion and EIS approval. It is anticipated that this decision would be made in the second half of 2016.
Yancoal generated a list of Questions and Answers (Q&A) and mailed it to communities surrounding the project after each round of community information sessions. The Q&A list was prepared based on questions and concerns heard during the community information sessions. Yancoal is committed to continuing to provide additional information about the project.

On Nov. 1 and 2, 2014, the Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) Review Meeting for Yancoal Canada 2.8 million tonnes potash project was conducted at the Headquarter of Yanzhou Coal Mining. Key members of Top management and relevant department directors from Yanzhou Coal Mining, Yancoal Canada, AMEC Engineering (Canada) Company, AGAPITP USA, well known potash experts from Potash Association of China, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, QingHai Salt Lake Group and Xinjiang Luobupo Potash Co. Ltd. have also attended the Review Meeting.
AMEC Engineering Company introduced in detail with respect to the 2.8 million tonnes potash solution mine, following by an abundant discussion and exchanges. Potash experts who attended the Review Meeting agreed an approval to this PFS report with following conclusions: the potash disposition which Yancoal Canada owns has a great mining condition and contains high grade and abundant resources and stable occurrence; solution mining and evaporation & crystallization is a proven process; the construction of a 2.8 million tonnes/year potash mine, its products and scale plan is reasonable; the utilities and Infrastructure is relatively well, as well as the anticipated economical profit.

On May 22nd, The former Chairman of parent company talked with Mr. Brad Wall, the Governor and Mr. Kent Cambell, the deputy Economy Minister of Saskatchewan and other relative persons in Saskatchewan Parliament House. The Former Chairman presented the profile of Yanzhou Coal as well as the early progress of potash mining project, and said thanks to the Governor and the Government of Saskatchewan for their great supports on the potash project developments of Yanzhou Coal. Mr. Brad Wall introduced the resources and economic development of Saskatchewan. He expressed thanks to Yanzhou Coal for investments in Saskatchewan, and he also emphasized that the Government of Saskatchewan would, as always, set a fair and transparent investment environment for Yanzhou Coal to support on the development of potash mining projects.
During July 3rd to 7th 2014, the Deputy General Manager Mr. Lai Cunliang and Chief Engineer Mr. Meng Xiangjun of Yanzhou Coal, along with relevant department directors, conducted an on-site investigation on the potash project in Canada. Mr. Lai’s delegation group visited the core lab of North Rim Exploration Company to check the rock core, got involved in the symposium with WorleyParsons Engineering Consulting Company, received work reporting from Yancoal Canada, conducted an investigation on the site of potash project.
On July 18th, Mr. Wang Xinping, the Consul General of Chinese Consulate General in Calgary went to inspect the potash project of Yancoal Canada.
Mr. Wang Xinping expressed appreciation for the achievements of Yancoal Canada, and also said that the Consulate General would do their best to provide services and actively support the development of the potash project of Yanzhou Coal. It’s also his hope that Yancoal Canada would consider ahead issues like personnel training, product transportation and market development, realize steady development of project, and make contributions to the promoting of Sino-Canadian trade and economic cooperation.
Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Region of Canada are under the jurisdiction of Chinese Consulate General in Calgary, besides, the potash project of Yanzhou Coal is located within the jurisdiction of Calgary Consulate General.
